About Our Art

The 42nd Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival artwork is centered on a single idea: we exist because of our stories. This year’s key art weaves together two elements – the Visual Communications archive and a diverse multigenerational community of filmmakers, each one deeply engaged in their craft. The characters are inspired by the breadth of the VC community and all its programs, from Armed with a Camera to Digital Histories and the Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival itself. Together, these elements form a sustainable continuum, where artists are shaped by community stories and community legacies are carried forward through artists’ craft.
The visual language builds on this intention. The graphic illustration style and red and black hues draw from a palette rooted in activist art. The animation brings the characters and craft to life by subtle movements, finding the rhythm and texture of people, creating something meaningful together. Storytelling is a living, evolving practice, and celebrating our stories is a form of resistance.
