MoNa is a Japanese-born, Los Angeles-based rapper and singer whose passion and commitment toward Chicano culture has led her to be featured in major news outlets, and even inspired a character in a play about East L.A.

Maceo Hernandez is an accomplished Chicano taiko drummer whose love for the traditional Japanese instrument took him on a dramatic journey to Japan that ultimately forced him to rethink and adapt his artistry in a new direction.

Through these stories, we explore questions around cultural appropriation versus appreciation, and what it means to search for one’s authentic voice in unlikely places.
