“Ke Ala” traces the story of a Native Hawaiian family spread out between the Hawaiian islands and the US continent. Featuring both VHS and high-resolution footage, the film acts as an intimate family portrait and explores themes of remembrance and connection, considering the ways we carry the memories of those who have come before us and maintain strong bonds with our loved ones. Constructed around interviews filmed in Hawaii and California, the film examines the ways that family members living in diaspora stay connected to their culture and each other while living an ocean away from their ancestral land.
