“balik/bayan” chronicles the life of Manny Paez, the founder of Manila Forwarder, a balikbayan box company serving LA’s Filipino American community since 1998. Through poignant vignettes, the film journeys from Paez’s childhood memories of receiving balikbayan boxes from his uncle to his own migration to the U.S. in the 80s, shedding light on the sacrifices made in pursuit of the “American dream” and the intangible losses that accompany it.
