MANZANAR, DIVERTED VISUAL SOUND BATH
The Manzanar, Diverted visual sound bath immerses viewers in the world of Payahüünadü, “the land of flowing water,” also known as the Owens Valley, where the Manzanar concentration camp was situated. Susie Kozawa, a sound artist who uses found objects to create unexpected sounds that entice viewers to imagine and remember, will be joined by George Abe, legendary local shakuhachi artist. This project was created as a companion piece to the feature documentary Manzanar, Diverted: When Water Becomes Dust, which opened the 2021 Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival.
