LONELY BLUE NIGHT

This film will be available on Friday, September 25, 2020 at 5pm PT / 8pm ET via the HBO Visionaries website.  It will premiere on HBO and be available for streaming on HBO Max beginning Tuesday, September 29, 2020 at 8pm PT/ET.

With the theme of “Breaking Barriers,” the 4th HBO Asian Pacific American Visionaries short film competition drew a record number of submissions of films that provided a unique lens into the challenges and victories of overcoming obstacles. In the spirit of celebrating community and amplifying voices, the 3 finalist films, Tiffany So’s FINE CHINA, Johnson Cheng’s LONELY BLUE NIGHT, and Thomas Percy Kim’s SI, will premiere at the Los Angeles Asian Pacific American Film Festival. The evening will be hosted by Anna Akana, with appearances from the 2020 HBO Visionaries Ambassador Shannon Lee, performing artist NIKI, and more.

A portrait of a Chinese family in which the consequences of a mother’s decision to leave her daughter in the care of an American homestay family are slowly unearthed when they reunite for a family/business dinner on one lonely blue night.
