Pakistani short films are consistently making waves on global platforms in recent times. Multiple shorts have not only been screened at different international film festivals, with some having won awards in various categories.

We reported last week that short film, Rani, was screened alongside numerous short films at the 35th edition of Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival (LAAPFF) that concluded recently. Rani, which is written and directed by Hammad Rizvi and produced by Akbar Allana and Sara Siddiqi, has yet another feather in its cap.

The short film, featuring transgender model and activist Kami Sid, has bagged the Special Jury Award for Impact, at the LAAPFF 2019.

GrayScale, which has co-produced Rani, took to Instagram to share the good news. “Rani just won the Special Jury Award for Impact, at the Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival! Congratulations to Hammad, and the rest of the cast and crew of the film,” the post read. This is not the first time that the short film has received an award. In the past, Rani has won the Outstanding Writer Award at the prestigious NBCUniversal Short Film Festival and also bagged the Best Narrative Short Award at the San Luis Obispo International Film Festival.

Apart from this, the short won the Fox Inclusion Short Award at the Outfest Los Angeles Film Festival and an Ursula gender-bender Award for Best Short Film at the International Queer Film Festival in Hamburg.
