Tasting Heritage intimately portrays the transformative journey of Emily Flynn, a Brooklyn-based Korean-American adoptee. As she delves into Korean cooking, each dish becomes a bridge connecting her present to the culture she was separated from at birth. The story traverses Flynn’s evolution—from a fragmented child to a determined mother teaching her children about their heritage. Along the way, Flynn’s culinary experiences help her process grief and find strength within her adoptee community after the tragic loss of her sibling. Through Emily Flynn’s personal story, the impacts of transnational adoption, cultural reclamation, and identity conviction, are revealed.
