Surrija – Nothing Love

Directed by Clarence Deng

Cast: Surrija

Surrija goes through the motions alone in the space as the environment she’s in (and eventually Surrija herself as well) becomes increasingly fuzzy and corrupted, eventually dissolving into nothing through a visual aesthetic driven by glitch art (datamoshing, analog CRT TV artifacts). It starts with identifiable set pieces like a bed, bar, and a karaoke TV setup, and as the song progresses, things begin to disappear, blend, mosh together, and glitch out, until Surrija is left alone with nothing but the TV. As the final chorus and outro ramp up, she’s drawn to a blank canvas on the wall, which becomes an analog CRT TV portal that she steps through, either escaping the void or becoming one with the noise. It’s up to the viewer to interpret the finale.
