A Korean immigrant mother, Yeonhee, is sick unbeknownst to her daughter, Julie, who lives in another city. Yeonhee calls her and leaves a voicemail, asking what time she’ll be landing. Soon after, Julie receives an unexpected call that her mother passed away. Distraught, she arrives at her childhood home and drinks the tea that her mother purchased for her, and falls asleep. Suddenly she’s awakened in an unfamiliar place, where a Grim Reaper approaches her and takes her to her mother. Yeonhee says the kind Grim Reaper gave her a chance to make a meal for her daughter one last time. Julie wakes up with her pillow drenched in tears.

PARENTHOOD

Parenting can come in many forms. It’s a single mother who struggles to keep her traditions and her noodle shop alive in a rapidly changing world. It’s the auntie who takes on the role of guardian for her niece. It’s the tender season after a mother’s passing, when her cognitively disabled daughter and her estranged sister must learn to communicate in order to move forward.
