C3: Crafting the Narrative

Join Paola Mardo, host and producer of narrative podcast Long Distance, in a conversation about the making of the Festival’s Opening and Closing Night films, YELLOW ROSE and EMPTY BY DESIGN.

C3 programs on Saturday, May 4th are not individually sold. The admission fee for the All-Day Pass will include all the panels on May 4th.

Paola Mardo (Moderator)
Paola Mardo is the host, producer, and creator of Long Distance, a narrative podcast about the Filipino diaspora that is part of the inaugural PRX Google Podcasts creator program and was featured in Fast Company, Apple Podcasts’ New and Noteworthy, Spotify Podcasts, and Bello Collective’s 100 Outstanding Podcasts of 2018. Her work has aired on KCRW’s Good Food, KPCC’s The Frame, and Offshore. Before coming to audio, she worked at Sony Pictures and Annapurna Pictures.

Andrea A. Walter
Andrea A. Walter is a British Filipina independent Writer, Director and Producer. Born and raised in the Philippines, she moved to the USA for University in pursuits of making films abroad. Andrea works as a Senior Programmer at the Las Vegas Film Festival, and hopes to help grow the community that helped the beginnings of her film career. EMPTY BY DESIGN is her first feature film as a Writer and Director, in which she was also the Director of Photography.

Cecilia R. Mejia
Cecilia R. Mejia is a first-generation Filipino-American, born and raised in Brooklyn. She’s worked with several grassroots organizations focusing on underrepresented communities, which lead to her working on a short documentary about the struggles of undocumented Filipino Immigrants. She has produced a few short films focusing on social justice issues like mental health and gender inequality, is a Social Impact Producer for the award-winning film, CALL HER GANDA, and is a Producer for YELLOW ROSE.

Diane Paragas
Diane Paragas is an award-winning director, editor, cinematographer and producer of commercials, narrative features and documentaries. She owns and operates Civilian Studios a Brooklyn based production company. She began her career in advertising as an agency producer and quickly moved to MTV where she helped launch MTV in Asia. Her narrative film YELLOW ROSE won the Cinematografo Originals Grant and the NYWIFT Ravenal Production Grant.

Osric Chau
Osric Chau was born and raised in Vancouver, Canada. An actor by trade, Osric has had roles in 2012, SUPERNATURAL, and DIRK GENTLY’S HOLISTIC DETECTIVE AGENCY. Whether as an actor, producer, director, writer, or other, Osric’s passion is in filmmaking and to this end, he has been involved in dozens of independent films over the years which most recently culminated to him producing his first feature film, EMPTY BY DESIGN, which he also stars in.
