Awards
The Film Festival confers a complement of awards for feature-length and short films. Awards are announced at a ceremony prior to Festival Closing Night; Audience Awards, determined by ballot, are announced shortly thereafter.
Awards include:
Festival Golden Reel Award – Excellence in Short Film (Narrative/Animation)
- Presented to a narrative or animated short film that demonstrates overall excellence in content and cinematic technique.
Festival Golden Reel Award – Excellence in Short Film (Documentary)
- Presented to a documentary short film that demonstrates overall excellence in content and cinematic technique.
Linda Mabalot New Directors/New Visions Award
- Presented to a short film that demonstrates an innovative and creative use of cinematic language.
Grand Jury Awards – Feature-Length Film (Narrative, Documentary, International Narrative, International Documentary)
- Presented to select feature-length Asian Pacific American narrative and documentary, and Asian Pacific international narrative and documentary films.
Festival Audience Awards – Feature-Length Film (Narrative and Documentary)
- Presented to an audience favorite feature-length film, as chosen by audience ballot.
Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival is an Academy Award®-qualifying festival for the Short Film Awards. Recipient(s) of the Film Festival’s Golden Reel Award for Narrative Short Film will be eligible for consideration in the Animated Short Film/Live-Action Short Film category of the Academy Awards®.
