Lea Salonga musical film ‘Yellow Rose’ to open LA Asian Pacific Film Festival

Lea Salonga and Eva Noblezada will star in a film that will open the the 35th edition of the Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival (LAAPFF).

According to a report on Deadline, the Filipino stage stars will headline the musical “Yellow Rose,” which follows the story of a 17-year-old Filipino-American teenager from Texas and dreams of becoming a country musician, but is forced to choose between going for her dreams without her mom or giving up her passion.

Eva will play the title role of Rose, while Lea will be featured as her aunt Gail.

Director Diane Paragas, who is making her feature film debut, told Deadline.com: “I am so humbled that our film has been chosen for this honor.”

She addedL “Yellow Rose has taken over 15 years to make and it couldn’t come at a more important time when anti-immigrant sentiment is at an all-time high. This is a story for everyone facing challenges in finding their voice, their dreams and, more importantly, their home.”

Joining Lea and Eva in the film are music star Dale Watson, Liam Booth, Gustavo Gomez, Libby Villari, and Princess Punzalan.

Yellow Rose is set to premiere on May 2 at the Aratani Theatre at the Japanese American Cultural & Community Center (JACCC) in Los Angeles.
